It might surprise you to know that Chocolate de Maní Caliente does not have any chocolate in it. The delicious Dominican delight is a Hot Peanut ‘Cocoa’ and is as deliciously deceptive as its name. It is actually a peanut-flavored milk drink that is served hot.

This Chocolate de Maní Caliente is a Dominican recipe and surprisingly good and easy to make. It is made with unsalted roasted peanuts, milk, sugar, cinnamon, cloves, and ground nutmeg. Pour the mixture into a pot, add cinnamon sticks and cloves, then boil the combination for 10 minutes. After that, take the cinnamon and cloves out, garnish with nutmeg and serve.

Chocolate de Maní Caliente ~ Hot Peanut ‘Cocoa’

This deceptive Dominican drink does not have chocolate in it. Hot Peanut Cocoa is a peanut flavor milk that has been spiced with sugar, cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg to create a sweet and creamy delight.

Ingredients

  • cups unsalted toasted peanuts
  • 2 qt milk
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup sugar to taste
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 6 cloves
  • 1 tsp ground nutmeg for topping

Instructions

Blending:

  • Blend the roasted peanuts with the milk and half of the sugar. This may take some time, you don't want it to have a grainy texture.
  • In a saucepan add all other ingredients and sugar to taste.

Heating:

  • Boil for 10 minutes over low heat.
  • Remove the cinnamon sticks and cloves.

Serving:

  • Sprinkle the nutmeg on top before serving.
