Habanero’s Mexican Grill Review

A Must Eat For Their Meat!

Step inside Habanero’s Mexican Grill on 7th and Roosevelt in downtown Phoenix and it’s an explosion of color and Carne’ Asada. “A lot of people think because it’s so colorful and clean in here, the food is more Americanized. But don’t be fooled our food is very authentic. Our family comes from the Jalisco Mexico area and we’ve brought that flavor here to Phoenix,” said Sergio Diaz Co-Owner and GM.

That flavor Sergio’s talking about was brought to the Valley 11 years ago by his brother Arturo Diaz, including two in Phoenix and one in Scottsdale. All three restaurants have thrived because of great food, customer service and hard work. “We’ve really worked hard to build a loyal following. We have the freshest food in the Valley. We cook everything right in front of you here at our kitchen downtown on the grill. We marinate our meats to perfection so you’ll taste the difference with our flavor,” Arturo Diaz.

So Why Habanero’s?

‘We really liked the way it sounded when we opened 11 years ago. It’s not that our food is so hot. We make our own salsas and habanero mix but those are side dishes. But if you want it hot we can make it for you,” said Sergio Diaz.

During our visit this Wednesday morning in early October, Sergio Diaz cooked up one of Habanero’s signature dishes called Parrillada. It’s a mouth-watering mountain of meat, filled with Carne Asada, chicken, chorizo, grilled onions, jalapenos, potatoes and carnitas. The Parrillada comes with tortillas you can load up with rice and beans. You’ll also get some chips with sour cream and guacamole on the side. There’s plenty of hot sauces in house, including their very own habanero salsa if you want to heat things up.”We can make this dish for one to 1,000 people. People love this dish when we cater. People love all the meats they get with this plate,” said Diaz.

As Head Cook Miguel Garcia cooked up the meats of the Parrillada, our mouths watered. The meats are marinated overnight with secret spices that Sergio wouldn’t let us know. “It’s a secret,” Diaz said with a smile, when we tried to pry it out of him.

What was easy for us to get, were great testimonials from customers-who couldn’t wait to tell us how much they like the food.

“Great staff, fresh food and it’s wonderful. I love the chicken bowls and burritos. The staff is great and make you feel at home,” said Matt Disanto, who lives in Chandler.

“I’m having the Fajita Bowl and a margarita, the food here is just awesome. The employees are awesome here. The cooks, the owners and employees. They are like friends. But I love all the fajitas the most on the menu. When you have friendship you’ve got everything,” said Manuel Davila.

“I love coming here. The food, the atmosphere is great and I love the carne asada bowl. It’s really awesome,” said Felix Martinez..

Sergio says that this newest Habanero’s downtown expanded by offering liquor drinks, import and export beers and plent of margaritas. The restaurant is also getting ready to open their outdoor patio. “We are looking forward to getting the patio opened,”said Diaz.

Habanero’s has a lot to offer including breakfast, lunch and dinner. Habanero’s is even launching their own hot sauce line that you can buy in any of their three restaurants. Their hours are Monday through Friday from 8am to 10pm. Saturday 9am-10pm and Sunday from 10am to 3pm.
