The Tequila Sunrise Cocktail, with its bright layers of color, will remind you of a summer sunrise. This Mexican drink recipe calls for only three ingredients: Tequila, Grenadine, and Orange Juice. It’s served unmixed to preserve the color of each layer and although it sounds easy, it can be a challenge to not end up with a solid-colored dark orange drink. So be gentle when pouring the Grenadine.

To make the Tequila Sunrise Cocktail first add the Tequila and then Orange Juice (fresh is best) into a glass filled with ice. The Grenadine is applied last, but due to its density, it will sink to the bottom, creating a red layer at the base of the glass.

Make your own Grenadine

Combine 2 cups of pomegranate juice and 2 cups of sugar in a saucepan and bring to a slow boil, stirring constantly until all of the sugar is dissolved. Reduce the heat and cover grenadine syrup and simmer for an additional 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Then remove from heat and allow the mixture to cool. Finally, add a dash or two of orange flower water (don’t overdo it).

You don’t have to be a movie star to enjoy this drink. It’s sweet, refreshing, and delicious. It’s easy to mix one up whenever your in the mood and put on the Rolling Stones or Eagles tune and complete that ’70s vibe.
