The Amaretto Pina Colada is a variation of the famous Piña Colada with the addition of a shot of Amaretto Almond Liqueur. The amaretto adds a rich and nutty flavor to the traditional coconut and pineapple Piña Colada. It is made with a combination of white rum, amaretto, coconut cream, pineapple juice, and whipping cream.

The Pina Colada comes in many recipe variations including the Amaretto Pina Colada. Other variations include mango, chocolate, banana, strawberry, vodka, kiwi, angostura bitters, sangría, and even kale.

History of the Pina Colada

The earliest known story states that in the 19th century, Puerto Rican pirate Roberto Cofresí, to boost his crew’s morale, gave them a beverage or cocktail that contained coconut, pineapple, and white rum. This was what would be later known as the famous piña colada.

How to Make This Amaretto Pina Colada Recipe

Put the pineapple juice, cream of coconut, amaretto, and rum in a blender with two cups of crushed ice. Blend on pulse until the texture becomes slushy. Pour into a hurricane glass, and garnish with a pineapple slice and cherry.

  • 3 oz. cream of coconut
  • 2 oz. light rum

  1. Blend the Main Ingredients

    In a blender, mix together pineapple juice, cream of coconut, rum, amaretto, and ice until blended and slushy.

  2. Pour and Garnish

    Pour frozen Amaretto Pina Colada in a tall hurricane glass and garnish with a pineapple wedge or cherry.
